The name Golden Beet Yoga came to mind for a number of reasons. First the color yellow is the color of a golden beet and in the Sivananda tradition of yoga the color yellow symbolizes learning and knowledge. Apropos, the uniform I wore during my yogic training was a yellow T-shirt and white pants. This combination of colors was important because yellow symbolized knowledge while white was symbolic for purity. This combination is still significant to me and one of the reasons Golden Beet got its name.
Secondly, the beet is a root vegetable based in the ground and therefore very connected to the earth. With most yoga poses a strong base and relationship to one's mat and the ground are the first steps in a strong pose. And of course I love the flavor of beets and enjoy cooking vegetarian foods that nurture the body. Health of the body and the mind are very much related.
